Organization of American States Academic Scholarships Program 2025 (up to $10,000)
Applications are now open for the Organization of American States (OAS) Academic Scholarships Program for 2025. This prestigious program offers academic scholarships for study or research at the Master’s or PhD level at universities or educational institutions within OAS Member States, excluding Canada (the nominating country).
The OAS Academic Scholarships Program is an important mechanism for international cooperation within the OAS, aiming to promote the economic, social, scientific, and cultural development of member states. The program helps strengthen relationships among the peoples of the Americas by providing advanced training opportunities to citizens in priority areas, contributing to a more interconnected and collaborative region.
Types of Scholarships Available
There are two types of scholarships available under this program:
- Scholarships in an OAS Consortium UniversityCandidates applying for this scholarship can select up to three programs at universities or educational institutions from the OAS Consortium of Universities list. These institutions are located in up to three different countries. To be eligible for this scholarship, candidates must apply to at least two different countries of study. This option increases the chances of being awarded the OAS scholarship. However, please note that the OAS reserves the right to select the country of study or research for the selected candidates.
- Scholarships in a Non-OAS Consortium UniversityCandidates who choose this option apply directly to the universities or educational institutions of their choice. They must also apply separately for an OAS scholarship to support their studies.
Scholarship Value
The scholarship amount is USD 10,000. Please note that the scholarship value may be subject to change.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the OAS Academic Scholarship Program, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
- Have completed the prerequisite degree(s) for the proposed program of study at the time of submitting the application.
- Possess an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) that meets or exceeds the minimum standard required by the host university.
- Be in good physical and mental health to successfully complete the proposed program of study.
- Have the linguistic competencies necessary to undertake academic studies in the language of instruction at the institution in the country of study.
Application Process
The application process for the OAS Academic Scholarships Program involves two key steps:
- Step 1: Complete and submit the OAS online application form for graduate studies and provide all supporting documents as required by the OAS.
- Step 2: Complete and submit the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) online application form via the My EduCanada portal.
Important: The deadline for both steps of the application process is March 13, 2025. Any late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
