Job Opportunity: CTR Research Assistant (03 Positions) – Study of Surgery, Injury, and Equity in Africa (D-SINE Africa)

The Data Science Centre for the Study of Surgery, Injury, and Equity in Africa (D-SINE Africa) is a collaborative organization housed at the University of Buea. We collect systematic data on injuries through Trauma Registries in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health of Cameroon. Our work spans multiple countries, including Cameroon, the USA, South Africa, and Uganda, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Fogarty International Center (FIC).

Our mission is to reduce the burden of injuries and address inequities in access to surgical services across African countries. We uphold principles of merit, equity, gender equality, and protection of minorities in our hiring process.

Job Description

This full-time role involves implementing m-Health solutions at one of the project’s three sites: Bertoua, Kribi, or Bafoussam. Key responsibilities include:

• Collecting health-related data from eligible patients in collaboration with hospital staff.
• Entering data into an electronic data platform.
• Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, with a 1-hour lunch break.

The role is supervised by a Field Supervisor and requires strong teamwork and commitment to achieving project goals.

Applicant Requirements

All applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Hold at least a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in one of these health-related fields: Nursing, Midwifery, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, or Hygiene.
• Have work experience in a hospital, preferably in the emergency department or surgical ward (advantageous).
• Be computer literate with proficiency in basic data entry software.
• Be fluent in English (French proficiency is an added advantage).
• Be highly motivated and available to start immediately in Bertoua, Kribi, or Bafoussam.
