Position Overview: Head of Civil & Infrastructure – Center of Expertise

As the Head of Civil & Infrastructure Center of Expertise, you will define and lead the technical scope of major global projects within Barry Callebaut’s network of factories, offices, warehouses, and academies. Managing a portfolio of large-scale, complex projects involving civil engineering and infrastructure, you will influence senior stakeholders and drive decisions across more than 10 locations. Budgets range from CHF 2 to 50 million per project.

This role emphasizes global leadership, process optimization, and the integration of Industry 4.0 technologies like smart systems and automation, all while ensuring compliance with hygienic design standards in food processing.

Key Responsibilities

• Global Project Management: Oversee a portfolio of 10-15 major projects annually, steering civil engineering and infrastructure initiatives for Barry Callebaut’s facilities worldwide.
• Technical Leadership: Define and implement technical standards for civil and utility infrastructure, ensuring alignment with global company goals.
• Smart Technologies Integration: Lead advancements in Industry 4.0, integrating automation, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), and data analytics to enhance efficiency.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with senior executives (Directors, VPs) to ensure alignment on priorities, technical solutions, and strategic goals.
• Sustainability Focus: Implement TPM, Lean, and Six Sigma methodologies to improve operational safety, quality, and sustainability.
• Team Development: Build and lead a global team of senior engineers and technical specialists, fostering collaboration and high performance.
• Vendor Relations: Manage partnerships with key suppliers to deliver cost-efficient and high-quality solutions.
• Change Management: Promote cultural transformation by fostering innovation, collaboration, and a focus on sustainable growth.
• Financial Oversight: Conduct feasibility studies, budget analyses, and business case development to support project goals.

About You

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (specializing in construction and utilities).
• 15+ years of experience in the manufacturing or process industries, with expertise in civil engineering, project management, and automation.
• At least 10 years of experience leading technical teams and managing large-scale projects globally, ideally within a matrix organization.
• Familiarity with hygienic design standards in the food industry and chocolate manufacturing processes.
• Expertise in Industry 4.0 technologies, including automation and smart infrastructure.
• Proficiency in TPM, Lean, and Six Sigma methodologies.
• Strong financial acumen with proven experience in budget management and business case development.

Skills and Core Competencies:

• Fluency in English; knowledge of French, German, or additional languages is advantageous.
• Ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams and senior stakeholders.
• Strong negotiation skills and a solution-oriented mindset.
• High resilience and adaptability, especially when driving cultural change across global locations.
• Attention to detail with a « Make it Happen » approach.

Travel Requirements:
Expect 10-50% travel depending on project needs, with flexibility for time zones and schedules.
