Casual Driver Opportunity
Location: Buea, Kumba, or Mamfe (with frequent travel to IRC’s program areas)
Objective: The primary role of Casual Drivers is to provide on-call transportation support when IRC’s regular drivers are unavailable due to:
- Annual or paternity leave
- Illness
- Increased workload
- Emergency response needs
Casual Drivers will be added to an IRC database and contacted as needed to ensure the continuity of operations.
Driver Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Driver, the Casual Driver will be responsible for:
- Transport Services:
- Drive IRC staff safely and efficiently to pre-approved destinations.
- Ensure strict adherence to travel plans and schedules authorized by the supervisor.
- Notify the supervisor of any delays or deviations that may affect the schedule.
- Provide transportation to and from the airport as required.
- Communication and Accessibility:
- Maintain effective communication with the supervisor.
- Keep the mobile phone on during working hours to ensure availability.
- Compliance with Vehicle Usage Policies:
- Properly fill out the logbook after each trip.
- Ensure seat belt usage at all times.
- Prohibit alcohol, drugs, or unauthorized individuals/materials in the vehicle.
- Vehicle Maintenance and Safety:
- Perform routine vehicle maintenance and report any breakdowns.
- Regularly check fuel and lubricant levels.
- Ensure essential tools and equipment are available.
- Keep all vehicle documents up to date.
- Ensure vehicle cleanliness and safety.
- Emergency Preparedness:
- Ensure the vehicle’s first aid kit is fully stocked.
- Support to Mechanics:
- Assist during vehicle repairs or maintenance.
- Additional Duties:
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Follow-Up and Reporting:
- Prepare daily travel reports and ensure all financial documents are completed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid driving license (Categories B and D).
- At least a First School Leaving Certificate.
- Basic mechanical knowledge.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role.
- Experience with an international humanitarian NGO preferred.
- Strong local knowledge of Buea, Kumba, or Mamfe.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and handle pressure effectively.
- Adaptability and flexibility in varying work conditions.
- Proficiency in English and/or French, and local languages.
