Job Opportunity – Danish Refugee Council (DRC) : Driver

DRC is looking for a qualified Driver to join our team in Buea, Cameroon. The driver will be responsible for the safe transportation of DRC staff and materials within the South-West region of Cameroon, as well as maintaining the assigned vehicle and ensuring its proper use.

In Cameroon, DRC has been active since 2018, responding to the needs of refugees from the Central African Republic and vulnerable populations affected by the Anglophone crisis. We work in rural and hard-to-reach areas, focusing on providing food, shelter, protection, and income-generating opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

A) Driving

• Safely transport authorized DRC staff and cargo to assigned destinations.
• Adjust driving speed based on road conditions and weather.
• Ensure the vehicle is equipped with all necessary documents (e.g., registration, insurance).
• Maintain a detailed vehicle logbook and obtain signatures for each trip.

B) Maintenance

• Conduct daily checks of the vehicle (engine oil, tires, brake fluid, etc.).
• Notify the supervisor of any maintenance or repair needs.
• Perform minor repairs to ensure vehicle functionality.
• Keep the vehicle clean and maintain its inventory (e.g., first aid kit, tools).

C) Loading/Unloading

• Safely load and unload cargo, ensuring proper securing of loads.
• Adhere to the authorized weight and passenger limits of the vehicle.

D) Safety and Security

• Ensure the safety of passengers and cargo.
• Maintain communication with the safety manager in case of issues on the road.
• Keep the vehicle fueled and ensure all safety equipment (e.g., seat belts, emergency kits) is in place.
• Follow DRC safety procedures during roadblocks or checkpoints.

Required Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license (Category D).
• Minimum of First School Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
• At least 6 years of driving experience, including 2 years with an international NGO.
• Experience with 4×4 vehicles (e.g., Toyota Hardtop, Pickup).
• Basic vehicle repair and maintenance knowledge.
• Knowledge of the local language (Pidgin) is an asset.
• Familiarity with the South-West and North-West regions is preferred.
• Ability to work under pressure and in challenging environments.
• Security and safety training is a plus.
